5 Steps to Conquer the World

You’re way too familiar with the feeling of your heart somersaulting against your ribs. It’s Saturday and you’re standing in front of a room full of people. You know that once you cross the threshold, down a few drinks, the feeling will be gone, making way for a fun, more humorous version of yourself – one that is often cloaked under layers of modesty and awkwardness. Ready to undress?

Here are five simple rules you should start with.

1. Accept that invitation. Your friend S is plenty of fun. The house is inevitably on fire when he is around. Chances are his friends are going to be much the same. And they will be more than happy to include you in their circle. Remember how you took a while to get comfortable, even with S?

2. Go on that date. You’ve met him in the lift a couple of times. The two of you inevitably end up making small talk and sharing a couple of laughs. But the thought of a formal set-up gives you palpitations. Considering, he goes out of his way to make conversation, he will make you comfortable on date night too. Smile, put on your best dress, and play along.

3. Ace the interview. You’re good at your job. Hell, you may even be the best they have. However selling yourself is not an art you possess. Fair enough. If you don’t speak up, your future employer will never know all that you’re worth. Remember bragging is completely different from stating facts.

4. Get the promotion. You may have the job you’ve always wanted, but the stagnation is starting to get to you. It’s time to move up. Don’t be deterred by overbearing co-workers or bosses who show you down. Be clear what you want and work towards it. Most importantly, make sure the people who matter value your contribution.

5. Say yes. The number one rule of every self-help book. You know what they say - Freedom lies on the other side of fear. (TrueRishte)
